Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue

http://www.somethingborrowedboutique.co.uk

I'm not one for following all the wedding traditions, but for some reason I feel like this is one I must fulfill. However, I'm at a loss as to how I accomplish it. Obviously I have the "new" part down with the dress. But I have a question about the "old". Does it have to be "old" old or just something that's not new? For instance, I'm going to be wearing my string of pearls on the big day. This has a cute side story....growing up, for every holiday and b-day, my grandma would give us each a pearl to put on our necklace, and then for my 16th b-day she finished off the strand. They are BEAUTIFUL and I wear them to work all the time (it's amazing how they make casual clothes look fancy). But anyway....the first pearl is technically like 25 yrs old. Is that old enough? And then there's the something blue...blue happens to be the one color that's not very prominent in our color explosion of a wedding so I don't want the "something" to be really extreme. Any ideas for this? My garter is already purchased and not blue and my shoes are going to be green flip flops so those two ideas are out. My eyes are blue, maybe that counts. AND I also need to borrow something? What do people borrow that's not jewelry related? Does anyone have a perfect old, blue item that I could borrow? Cause that would be great.

Arts and Crafts: Wedding Style

I purchased these letters at Michaels a while back and just got around to painting them. I'm not exactly sure where these will be used in the wedding, but I'm thinking maybe the cupcake or gift table. Speaking of gifts, we registered at Bed Bath & Beyond last night. It was fun, but it took 2 and a half hours! I also spent a long time online today adding and deleting things. Here is my favorite thing we put on the registry:
It's by Lenox and I'm in love with it. I think it has a very Anthropologie feel to it. The helper guy convinced us to register for 12 sets. I feel like this is extreme and I have no idea where we'll put 12 sets. Actually, we might need several sets after finding out some info from the psychic that Jake's mom saw. She's on vacation in New Orleans and she visited one for fun. Apparently the psychic knew how many kids she had and that her son was engaged. She then mentioned that we're having 4 kids. No thanks. I'm stopping after 2. But, if I happen to have 4 at once then I guess we can all eat off the nice dishes. Maybe by kids she meant 2 cats and 2 dogs. That seems like enough for now.

Weird

Yesterday evening around 7:00 I was sitting on the couch and I heard a knock on the door. Jake had just called about a minute earlier so I knew it wasn't him just being too lazy to use a key. So I got up and looked through the peephole but didn't see anyone. I thought maybe UPS had dropped off a package so I opened the door to find a kid. No, not a baby in a basket type thing, but a 7-10 yr old (I really can't tell). I guess he saw Sydney in the window and wanted to pet her. When he spoke I could tell he suffered from some type of disability (not severe) and I felt sorry for him so I let him come in. He chased her around, took a lollipop off the coffee table and then started to try to go behind the couch to get the cat. This involved being way too close to Jake's guitar so I told him he needed to go. But seriously, he was here for about 10 minutes. Then he came back a little later w/ 2 other friends and wanted more candy. I only had one sucker left so I gave it to him. Too bad for the 3rd kid....but the original kid ran through the house again chasing the cat. Jake was home by this time so I felt more protected, otherwise I wouldn't have answered the door again. AND then today, just moments ago the kid came back! I didn't answer the door right away in hopes that he'd just leave, but then I heard him trying to open the door!! So I opened it, he had a startled look on his face, handed me the paper and said a few things. But seriously, how weird is this and WHERE ARE HIS PARENTS and is he plotting to break into my house??? I KNOW we've never met them so it's not like they should feel comfortable letting their child into our house. We live in a condo complex for crying out loud. It's not in a bad area, but as someone who goes running around the place at 5 in the morning, I can tell you that there are some weirdos (don't worry, I carry pepper spray). So really, where are they and what have they taught this child, who by the way, was wearing the same outfit as last night? Do weird things like this happen everywhere or is it a Las Vegas thing?

My Idol

I'm slightly obsessed with Cinderella. When I was little I would demand to watch it multiple times a day (I was an only child until the age of 6). I'm trying to think of subtle ways to incorporate her/the movie into the wedding. I have a few ideas, but nothing I LOVE and everything I think of seems to be really expensive i.e. cake topper (the only really nice one I've found is $150-$200), custom napkins that say "and they lived happily ever after" are approx. $75, and custom champagne flutes that have Cinderella and Prince Charming along w/ our names and date are about $64 plus shipping. I've also thought about signs that have movie quotes painted on them, but I'm not completely sold on the idea. Any suggestions from YOU?

Our Super Fun Weekend

Here is a recap of our super fun weekend:

Jake's bff from high school came into town on Wednesday with his girlfriend. She's was in a wedding on Saturday so she's did bridal party stuff all weekend. The rest of us kept busy though. First, we took Tim to Hash House A go go.

It was delicious! They have huge portions so obviously I love it. After Hash House we went to Town Square and walked around. The weather was perfect so it was nice to be out and about.

Later that evening we went to a wedding (not the same one as Jake's friend) and it was really fun. Here are some pictures from that:

We left early though to go to the after party of the wedding that Jake's friend went to. It was at The Artisan. I was a little worried by the shady location, but it turned out to be pretty cool. I was up way past my bedtime, but we had a lot of fun so I didn't mind.

On Sunday we took Tim and Jill to M resort and hung out by the pool, walked around the wine cellar, and enjoyed our free fountain drinks. After that we took them to our favorite restaurant, Viva Mercado's. Our huge meal left us full and exhausted so we all came home and crashed. It was a fabulous weekend and I'm excited that we get to see Tim and Jill again next month when we're all in CA at the same time.

Dress #3: I can't stop buying them....

This one is from White House Black Market and it's a little fancier than the last one. It has pockets too. But not obvious pockets that look stupid. They blend in and will be a good place to keep snacks in case I get hungry. Also, I will not be wearing the black belt.

Here are some more goodies my mom purchased today. Our cupcake table is going to look so cute.

Ribbons & Whatnot

Here are some things I've picked up the past few weeks:

I have no idea where I'm going to put this, but I just love it.

I purchased multiples of each of these. I have A LOT of ribbon. I think I'll use the green and white polk a dots for bouquets and the two middle ribbons to wrap the gifts for guests and the multi-colored polk a dots have no purpose as of now, but it has all of our colors so I'm sure it will look great somewhere.

These are for some additional cupcake wrappers. My mom purchased a template on Etsy so we're going to print a few and brighten up the cupcake table!**the pink color in this picture is actually more of a coral color**

That's all for now. I should probably stay out of Michaels for a while.

Name Change Update and Other Stuff

So Jake decided that he wants to wait until the wedding to do everything (like actually get married and then do the name change). He wants it to actually mean something. I suppose this is fine ;) Has anyone seen that episode of Friends where Monica says something along the lines of "If you call our wedding a party one more time..." to Chandler? Well I kinda feel like we're like that only I'm Chandler and Jake is Monica. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to downplay the significance of it, I just really do want it to be a fun party. And I know it will be. I also know it will be the most wonderful day of our lives and I'm so excited for it

Today I received several Save the Date concepts from my wonderfully talented friend Christina! Let me just say....SHE IS AMAZING. If anyone ever needs anything graphically designed then she is your girl. Jake and I picked our favorite and I'm ecstatic about it. Honestly, I want a poster size picture of it to hang on my wall. It's that awesome. I may or may not have had the file open on my computer all day at work so that I could look at it over and over.

My mom received our cupcake wrappers in the mail today and they are wonderful too. There's an assortment and they are a mixture of cute and sophisticated. We'll probably be adding one more color of wrapper to tie everything together. Here's a picture of what we have so far:

We'll probably be adding a coral color to the mix to brighten everything up. They will be yummy and beautiful! That's all for now. Time to get ready for bed :)

The Name Change

Tonight Jacob and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Chili's. We had this appetizer called Texas Cheese Fries. They were very delicious so you should go have some right now. They're low fat too! Haha, not really.
Anyway, while at dinner we were talking about name changes and all the work that goes into it. I haven't actually researched it, but I'm assuming there are several things to take care of...SSN, bank account, work related stuff, drivers license, etc. And since there are so many things, we (well I guess "I" is the better word since he doesn't have to change anything) are contemplating getting the process started in the near future. Does this sound logical or just weird? I think it's logical for several reasons. 1.) You don't even need to be married to change your name 2.) We're going to get our marriage license in Las Vegas anyway (to avoid needing a blood test) so we'll be legally married well before the ceremony and 3.) my drivers license picture is RIDICULOUS and I could use a good reason to get a new one. Seriously, worst picture in the world, even strangers comment on how bad it is. I'm not joking.

So...thoughts? Objections?

The Cake (cupcakes to be exact)

image found on google images

This is exactly what I want our cake to be. Lots of cakes stands on a table with varying heights and different colors. The white cupcakes will be wrapped in the wrappers found below and the chocolate will be wrapped in plain white wrappers.

acupcakery.com

I also told my mom (the baker) that I want multi-colored sprinkles to top the cupcakes. I'll be on a quest to find cute cake stands so if anyone finds some inexpensive ones then let me know! P.S. I realize our wedding resembles a birthday party more than a wedding, but who cares, I like it!! P.P.S. all the previously mentioned ideas are subject to change because the groom has not yet agreed to them. I'm sure he'll love everything though.

The Guest Book

I found this today on clearance at Michaels and I fell in love. It's a scrapbook album, but will soon be transformed into our guest book. The plastic protective pages inside will be removed and replaced by pieces of paper that have scanned images of mementos I've collected over the years (ticket stubs, postcards from places we've been, pictures) and it will be awesome. Siggy is designing the pages and I can't wait to see the final product!!

Another Dress

I purchased this dress today at Windsor (yeah, the high school prom dress store). I'm still going to keep looking, but I actually really like it and will definitely wear it more than just on my wedding day. And if I find something else then I'll probably still keep it because it's cute and was only $60.

Friday, April 3, 2009

I'm sure this is what people are thinking if they have talked to me in the past 2 weeks:

But I just can't help it! It's like word vomit. I don't want it to be the only thing I talk about, but it's all that will come out. I'm glad Jake doesn't mind talking about it. Well, if he does mind then he's not saying anything :) Actually he's been really great about it and I feel so fortunate to have a fiance that actually WANTS to help plan the wedding. He's been involved in every decision and while I know he just wants me to be happy with whatever we choose, he still voices his opinion and gets excited about everything. He's wonderful and I'm the luckiest girl in the world. And, let's face it, he's the luckiest guy in the world cause I'm pretty awesome too. So the wedding is less than 6 months away...everyone can put up with the word vomit for a measly 6 months, right?

On a non wedding related note (I guess I do have other things to say)....I fell while running today. It was about time for my semi-annual fall so I shouldn't be surprised, but my arm hurts so much! I think it's a muscle spasm or something. Usually there aren't many people outside at around 5:30 in the morning, but luckily some fortunate neighbor decided to take out his trash at this early hour and witnessed my fall. He asked if I was alright, I said yes, and then he said "ahh" like you poor little person you. As much as the fall hurt my arm, I was still laughing in my head when it happened because, seriously, how is it possible that falling while running is pretty much my "thing"? It's ridiculous. The end.

Definitely Not THE Dress

I look ridiculous in it and will be returning it asap!
