Weekend Adventure: Day 1

We took off for the coast around noon on Friday. We were headed to Point Arena to stay at the Warfmaster's Inn. Some family friends gave us a free night stay as a wedding gift and we were so excited to be able to use it. Since Fort Bragg is only about an hour away from Point Arena we wanted to choose a weekend to use it when we knew Jake's grandma would be at her beach house so we could visit with her. We arrived in Point Arena around 2:30 and headed straight for the lighthouse. We'd researched it online and found out that they offer tours. Unfortunately it was closed when we arrived. It was also gated off so that you couldn't go all the way up to the lighthouse. We still look pictures though. Please excuse my weird face. It was very cold and windy.

After our failed lighthouse mission we made our way to the Inn. Here are some pictures of the room and the amazing view we had.

After we unloaded our belongings we headed out to explore the town of Point Arena. It's a very tiny town, but we found some really cute things. One was this little bakery that was super super tiny, but had some of the cutest things and delicious looking baked goods. I bought a heart shaped macaroon. We also went to the library and purchased three books that cost us only $4!

After our trip down main street we set off on a drive and made it to the next town over, Gualala. We found a restaurant there and had dinner. We weren't totally impressed by the restaurant, but I loved how the butter was served (it's in an oyster shell).

On our way back to Point Arena we were able to catch an amazing sunset.

We fell asleep pretty much the second we got back to the hotel. It's a good thing though because Saturday was packed full of fun things too. Check back later for Day 2!

I have to go here soon!!

I saw this on the news today in a segment called "The 3 Best Museums You Probably Don't Know About." The drive would take a couple of hours, but I think it would be worth it. One of the best Christmas presents I ever received was a miniture pinball machine. It was ridiculously loud, but a lot of fun. I wish I still had that thing. I think it's in my closet at my parent's house. If so, then I'll take an extra large suitcase the next time I go home so that I can reclaim it.

Nothing exciting

is going on right now. Please entertain yourself with some of my favorite sites:

There will be plenty of stories to come. We're going to the coast this weekend and then next week I'm going to start volunteering at an after school program. I'm sure that will be entertaining.

Concetto

I was flipping through a home design magazine the other day when I came across an advertisement for this company. They use semi-precious stones to make countertops, floors, and furniture. You can get things like countertops backlit so they look even more magical. I'm sure it's incredibly expensive, but it's still fun to dream.

Jake and Megan's Day of Fun

Our Sacramento trip was somewhat spur of the moment, but we had a great time. It all started because we recently sold our VW Jetta to my parents and the shipping company was supposed to come get it from us, but I guess nobody wanted to drive alllll the way to the middle of nowhere to pick it up so we ended up taking it out to Sacramento. We definitely made the most of our fun little get away. Enjoy the pictures!

This was my first brand new car and I'll miss it a little, but I know my mom will take good care of it.

Loading up on lots of taffy.

Wells Fargo Museum

Awesome hat store. Just check out those glittery hats behind me!

Mr. Jason Mraz

We also found this awesome kite store. Notice the black and white cat kite on the right. It was my favorite.

This is outside the Schoolhouse Museum.

We ended our Old Sacramento visit with a trip to a palm reader. She was pretty weird. She was right on about our personalities, but very far off with her predictions. Neither of us are going back to school like she predicted and I'm not interviewing for ANOTHER part time job within the next two weeks. Apparently I'm very fertile though and will have no less than 3 children. I'm determined to find a psychic that will tell me I'm going to have only 2 kids. Oh, and Jake and I have been married less than 5 years. Um DUH! How old do we look to you?? Oh well. It was still fun.

View from our hotel room.

Restaurant where we had dinner. The host of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives owns it. There's one is Santa Rosa too, but it's been closed for a remodel for months and months. It was delicious!!

We also went to the mall while we were out there. There's a funny story that goes with that. While we were in our hotel room Jake was looking through the phone book for places to go and he asked if I wanted to go to Arden Square. Well I thought he said "arts and fair" and I wasn't sure exactly what that was, but agreed to go because it sounded like a craft fair or something. Well we reached a traffic light and were about to turn into the mall parking lot and I said "where are we going?" and Jake said "Arden Square, the mall." And then I explained what I thought he'd said in the hotel room and we laughed forever about this. I really wanted to go to a craft fair, but the mall was fun too. That pretty much sums up our day of fun. We're going to the coast in a couple weeks and I'm looking forward to our next mini adventure.

Happy 6th Anniversary of Our First Date (aka Valentines Day)!

If you want to read about our first date again click here (it's the post from last year)!

Today we are driving to Sacramento to take care of something and my parents graciously offered to get us a hotel room with my dad's reward points. Most people wouldn't be too thrilled about a night in Sacramento, but I'm really excited. We're staying near Old Sacramento so we'll be able to walk around and do fun things. We're also going to try to go to a couple of places that have been on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The other day I was bored and looked up all of the places that the host has been to in Northern California. There are a little over 20. I'm determined to visit all of them at some point.

Yesterday I had a wonderful surprise at work. An older couple walked in with a huge display of roses and I immediately thought "Oh, they must be for Pam (my boss)." Then they asked if I was Megan and they said the flowers were for me. I honestly thought "who sent me these?" After reading the sweet card it became quite clear. It said "Happy 1st date anniversary. I wish we could go to Kilkenny's and sit next to each other."

The reason I was so surprised though was because on Wednesday I got a call from Jake when he was on his way home from Costco and he said he had three surprises for me. He told me one of them was a box of Brita filters so I wasn't too excited about the rest, but then he walked through the door with flowers and a microwave! I was so shocked by the roses because I wasn't expecting to receive flowers twice in one week!

The microwave is a dream come true. We've been without one for about 6 months now (since we moved out here). You don't realize how useful they are until you're without one. This one is super snazzy too. I've said it several times, but I'll say it again. I'm a very lucky girl.

Last Weekend

Sorry it's taken me so long to recap the Las Vegas trip. We had a great time and I wish we could have stayed longer.

We left last Thursday night and arrived on Friday morning around 8. We had breakfast at the Red Rock buffet and then went upstairs to find this amazing room:

It was the nicest hotel room I've ever stayed in. I felt very spoiled. After resting for a bit I went to work out and then got cleaned up for my lunch with Kim. We went to the Olive Garden. Now, I'm a huge fan of OG, but did anyone else know their lunch portions are tremendously smaller than their dinner portions? I was a bit disappointed when my mini lasagna arrived at the table. After lunch I met Jake back at the hotel and he drove me to my old office to visit with everyone. After my work visit, it was time for Jake to meet with his old work friends. He dropped me off to do some shopping at Town Center. He picked me up after a couple of hours and we headed back to Red Rock, ate, and went to bed super early because we were still exhausted from the drive.

On Saturday Jake went golfing and I hung out with my friend Erin. We went to lunch and then walked around Fashion Show Mall. I met Jake back at the hotel and we went to see Dear John. Great movie. After that Jake met up with Frank and Rick and went to dinner. I had plans to meet up with my friend Katy Beth for dinner at 8. We also had plans to meet a bunch of people at a club at Red Rock after our dinner, but we found out while we were eating that the club was mysteriously closed. We ended up just meeting everyone at Erin's house and hung out. I was a little disappointed we didn't get to go dancing, but it was a lot of fun catching up with everyone.

On Sunday Jake and the guys went to set up the memorabilia show (the whole reason we went to Vegas). I went to work out and then met them down at the show so I could get some free food. I hung around for a bit, but went back up to the room after a while because football isn't really my thing. I watched Sleepless in Seattle and took a nap.

We left on Monday morning. I was sad to leave, but was eager to get back home to Sydney. She missed us a lot.

We stopped at Mad Greek in Baker, CA on the way back. We've been there before because I saw it on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives a long time ago. It was kind of unusual to eat a gyro at 9:30 in the morning, but it was still delicious. Jake's shirt was the same color as the bench. It was picture worthy.

Not a good sign

I found this article today and it made me sick to my stomach.

I'll be back soon with a recap of our Las Vegas weekend. It was a lot of fun!

Fun with Photoshop

I haven't read my photoshop book yet, but that didn't stop me from attempting to do some things. Last weekend we went to the lake to take pictures and I've been working on making them pretty. Please don't laugh at my novice skills.

My mom made this scarf for Sydney. Isn't it the cutest thing ever? I'm trying to convince her to make a little hat now.

P.S. I won't have any blogs for the next few days because we're going to Las Vegas this weekend!
